Workforce Housing Grant

Workforce Housing Grant

Thursday, April 15, 2021

Gothenburg Improvement Company is among 14 entities awarded Rural Workforce Housing Fund grants through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

GIC will be able to leverage an additional NIFA grant of $200,000 in addition to our local commitment of $750,000 from local economic development funds to provide much needed workforce housing to our community.

A parcel of land on Washington Street across from the city maintenance shop, owned by the Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA) is slated for the construction of six new workforce homes. A property on Avenue M recently purchased by the GIC, will have 13 homes developed. Both areas are currently vacant and undeveloped, and will therefore require significant upfront costs for preparation and infrastructure. GIC has applied for TIF funds to help offset those costs.
